Stars get new bus from sponsors

Dar es Salaam. Taifa Stars’ preparations for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers received a timely boost yesterday when Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) secured a new bus for the team.
The bus, Yutong worth over Sh200 million, will be handed over to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) next week, according to the company’s official, George Kavishe.
Kavishe, the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager brand manager, said yesterday that they have secured the modern bus to ensure players’ comfort when travelling.
“When we signed a sponsorship contract with the TFF, one of our objectives was to ensure our national team players and officials enjoy royal treatment before and during their assignments,” said Kavishe.
“This bus can carry 50 passengers and a load of three tons. We expect to hand it over to the TFF on February 21,” he added.
The TFF and TBL have signed a five-year sponsorship for the national team. Under the deal sealed in May, last year, the company will be spending Sh2 billion a year to foot various costs pertaining to the team.
One of the promises TBL made when signing the contract was to purchase a new bus for the Stars, a pledge it has honoured within its first year of sponsorship.
Taifa Stars will take on Morocco’s Atlas Lions next month in a crucial World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium.
As part of their preparations for the match, Kim Poulsen’s boys have played two high-profile friendly matches so far.
In their first warm-up, they stunned former African champions Zambia’s Chipolopolo 1-0 at the National Stadium late last year.
For the Zambians, the showdown served as a build-up for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals, which came to a close last weekend in Johannesburg, South Africa.
To ensure their victory over Chipolopolo was not a fluke, Stars notched up a win of similar margin over Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions at the same venue two or so weeks ago.
Plans are on for the TFF to organise another international friendly match for the team ahead of the Morocco clash.
