Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is facing an FA charge after appearing to elbow Newcastle United’s Yohan Cabaye in his side’s 3-0 win on Tyneside.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew said: 'He's looked at Yohan and he's elbowed him. I think that needs to be looked at, if I’m honest.
'There was a bit of history there and I don’t know whether he’s got caught up in that, but that was just a little bit of unsavouriness in the game.
‘I actually thought Yohan wouldn’t have gone down if he hadn’t done something but I hadn’t seen it myself. I’ve obviously seen the replay and it looks like he’s looked at him and put the elbow in.
‘But I’m not going to take anything away from United, they deserved to win. They came and played very, very well in periods.’
Holland forward Van Persie must now wait for referee Howard Webb’s report.
He faces a three-match ban if found guilty of violent conduct. Cabaye was adamant the striker hit him in the mouth as he remonstrated with Webb, who missed the off-the-ball collision.
The referee appeared to indicate that he would act if footage showed there was malicious contact. Newcastle coach John Carver and fourth official Kevin Friend had a similar conversation in the technical area.
